What would you do if you were not afraid?

A month or so ago, one of the pastors of my church asked the congregation, "What would you do if you were not afraid?" It stuck in my mind for ages afterwards as I wondered if I've been holding back in any area because of fear. Would I be further in my career? A better and more honest friend? Experienced more in life?

There's a scripture from the Bible in 2 Timothy 1:7 which says:

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

As a Christian I believe that but do I act on it? Fear stops us making that leap to the next step, makes us imagine what might happen and allows that to become a reason not to attempt that journey. In my short (haha) 27 years I've realised that, basically, life is too short. It's awful to look around and think, that person was once where I was and look where they are now! That can breed jealousy and makes it even harder for you to do what you want to do. Some said on twitter the other day that success is not a pie chart - just because someone else succeeds does not mean your part of the pie (or your chance at success) gets any smaller! While you're alive and breathing, its never too late.

Fear stops you getting to that place of rest, success, satisfaction and accomplishment. I love the phrase - feel the fear and do it anyway - and I want to challenge everyone reading this to do that. Just do it! What are you afraid of? Flying? Changing jobs? Sticking at your job and working harder to get to the next level even though you have a boss who got her management skills from The Devil Wears Prada? Being single? Travelling? Travelling on your own? Adopting a child? Re-training?

What would you do if you were not afraid?
