It's not fair that you're pregnant.
That people celebrate you
You and your clever womb
Congratulations on creating new life!
The most important job in the world
Apparently.
It's not fair that you're pregnant.
That you get to spam people with scan photos and side selfies
Filling up our timelines
with updates on how you feel.
Today was a good day, you say
The sickness has gone away.
It's not fair that you're pregnant.
That you get to choose baby names
And buy cute clothes
Finding stuffed toys for their pram.
Baby shower overload
with gift snapshots for the 'gram.
It's not fair that you're pregnant.
That while I stand in painfully high stiletto heels,
You sit, in comfort
With a badge which needs no words.
A quick point to the belly
Means a commute made easier by parting herds.
It's not fair that you're pregnant.
Although I love you, I do
It's just the thing that makes it not fair
Is that I'm not pregnant too.
Thank you for being the voice of many of us who suffer/have suffered in silence. I look forward to the day when we can celebrate the arrival of your bundles of joy.
